James Whittemore: Born and raised in the Eastern United States, painter, James Whittemore traveled through much of our nations east coast and also through many parts of the Adirondack and White Mountains. James now resides in Peterborough, New Hampshire with his wife and two children. James’ mother was an artist, and can be partially credited for helping James realize his skill and passion for the “My Mom was there, helping me out. She’d show me a new kind of paint or technique, and I would try my best to master it.” With artistic help from his mother and support from both his parents James was able to travel throughout much of the eastern mountain ranges, and captured many of his favorite scenes on paper and on film. These early adventures provided much of James’ inspiration and aided him in maturing as an artist. When asked which artist most greatly affected and continues to affect his work, Whittemore quickly replies, Thomas Cole. “Cole’s artistic skill and wide range work has always impressed me as a fellow artist.” With Cole as a hero, it’s no wonder that much of James’ work is similar to the original Hudson River School of art pieces. However, Jame’ modern pieces all feature his original touches and different perspectives that have come to define him as a painter. James’ professional artistic career, began in 1992 when he was commissioned at the very office he worked in as a sales rep, to paint landscapes for the office walls. “When I got that first check I knew it was what I had to do. How can you beat getting paid for what you love to do?” After his first foray into the commercial art world, Whittemore began promoting his skills to local companies and eventually world wide via the web. From his promotions, James says his current project load in unbelievable. “I must get at least 6 new emails a week, from people wishing to have a custom painting done, or inquiring about paintings I have already completed.” This is no surprise, considering the amount of work James puts into each painting, and the unique viewpoints he offers in every painting. {mosimage}{mosimage}{mosimage}{mosimage}{mosimage} |
